I was waiting to hear from you

I Was Waiting to Hear From You is a site-specific project consisting of adhesive vinyl transfers modelled on text bubbles used in SMS communications and affixed to the glass windows of 6 bus shelters within the CBRM, along the Sydney to Glace Bay route. The vinyl text bubbles include one or more phrases expressing common sentiments used in text conversations, each followed by a ‘reply-in-progress’ bubble. Real message fragments, provided by anonymous contributors from the CBRM, are presented in each shelter, each in a different language represented here on the island. Translations in English of each ‘conversation’ fragment are viewable, below.  A full description of this site-specific art installation may be found here.

Including the text above, I Was Waiting to Hear From You features five authentic message fragments from SMS communications in English, Gaelic, Mhinglish (Marathi English), Miklish (Mi'kmaq English) and Chinese (Traditional). Translations of each are offered below.

My thanks to those participants who kindly agreed to share these personal communications for this project.
